A high-risk sex offender, recently released from prison, is back in police custody after allegedly committing indecent acts on public transit buses in Durham Region.
Arrests Follow Public Safety Advisory
Durham Regional Police arrested 52-year-old Matthew Donald Adlam of Oshawa on Saturday, December 28, 2025. The arrest is connected to two separate incidents of indecent exposure on Durham Region Transit (DRT) buses.
Police first became involved on December 16, when a male passenger was reportedly observed masturbating aboard a DRT bus. The bus driver was alerted and the individual was removed from the vehicle. Then, on December 27, police intervened again when the same male was allegedly seen committing an identical indecent act on another DRT bus. Officers attended the scene and took Adlam into custody.
He now faces two counts each of committing an indecent act and disobeying a court order.
History of Serious Sexual Offences
Adlam was the subject of a public safety advisory issued by Durham police on October 7, warning the community of his release from prison. He had just finished serving a sentence for multiple serious criminal convictions.
His criminal record includes convictions for sexual assault with a weapon, committing an indecent act, criminal harassment, breaking and entering, uttering threats, and carrying a concealed weapon.
Authorities have classified him as a high-risk offender, prompting the earlier public warning about his presence in the Oshawa community.
