Houston police officer Ashley Gonzalez has been stripped of her badge and firearm after a disturbing video surfaced showing her unleashing a racist tirade against Black people, according to reports from local media outlets. The Houston Police Department confirmed that Gonzalez has been relieved of duty while technically remaining employed pending a comprehensive internal investigation into the incident.
Video Content Sparks Immediate Outrage
The video, which was initially brought to light by a tipster who alerted Fox 26, features a woman who appears to be Officer Gonzalez repeatedly using the N-word while expressing violent hatred toward Black individuals. In the footage, filmed inside a vehicle, the woman declares, "I fucking hate niggers. I fucking hate chimps." She later describes a physical confrontation, stating, "I grabbed that nigger by the neck and I was like, 'Come here you fucking nigger,' and oh, my God, I felt like the world just stopped."
Community Leaders Voice Strong Condemnation
Bishop James Dixon, president of the Houston NAACP chapter, responded forcefully to the video, telling KHOU that it represents "a sick mindset and is violence waiting to happen." He emphasized that most law enforcement professionals do not share such extremist views. The Houston Police Officers' Union issued a statement through Fox 26, declaring, "In no way does the HPOU or its leadership condone or tolerate racist behavior from any of our officers."
Background and Department Response
Officer Gonzalez joined the Houston Police Department in 2024 following a four-year service period with the United States Marine Corps. The department has not yet provided additional comments regarding potential disciplinary actions or whether Gonzalez has obtained legal representation. The investigation remains active as authorities work to verify the authenticity of the video and determine appropriate next steps.
This incident occurs in a city where approximately one-quarter of the population identifies as Black, highlighting the serious implications of such behavior from a sworn officer tasked with protecting all community members. The department's swift action to remove Gonzalez from active duty underscores the gravity with which they are treating the allegations.
