A 56-year-old resident of Kanata has been charged with impaired driving and dangerous operation of a vehicle following a traffic stop on Highway 417 that revealed his blood alcohol concentration was more than four times the legal limit.
Traffic Stop Leads to Serious Charges
The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon, April 2, when Ontario Provincial Police officers from the Ottawa detachment responded to a complaint from another motorist about a potentially impaired driver traveling westbound on Highway 417 near Pinecrest Road. The complaint was received just before 4 p.m., prompting immediate police action.
Officers successfully located the vehicle in question and conducted a roadside screening test after speaking with the driver. The preliminary results were concerning enough that police transported the man to the Ottawa detachment for more comprehensive testing.
Shocking Test Results
The subsequent testing revealed the driver had a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood, which represents the legal limit in Ontario. More alarmingly, his actual reading was determined to be more than four times this threshold, indicating a severe level of impairment while operating a motor vehicle.
Police have identified the individual as Sarith Pich, a 56-year-old Kanata resident. The charges against him include both impaired driving and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, serious offenses under Canadian law.
