Final Suspect Convicted in 2023 Home Invasion Kidnapping Case
Sijuola Obatusa, 23, has been found guilty in B.C. Supreme Court on April 2, marking the conclusion of a year-long legal process involving four suspects in a harrowing 2023 home invasion and kidnapping. Obatusa is the last of the four individuals to be convicted, with the other three having previously entered guilty pleas.

The case stems from a March 2023 home invasion where a family was forcibly taken from their residence, driven outside the city, and held hostage for an extended period. This violent event triggered an intensive police investigation that spanned seven crime scenes and ultimately led to the identification and apprehension of all suspects involved.
Other Suspects and Their Pleas
The three other suspects in this case include:
- Duoth Techen Garkouth, 21, and Ramadhan Ibrahim-Hussein, 21, both pleaded guilty to kidnapping and break-and-enter charges. Both were 19 years old at the time of the incident.
- A fourth suspect, who was 17 at the time of the crime, pleaded guilty to lesser offenses of unlawfully being in a dwelling house and forcible confinement. This individual was sentenced in youth court in 2024 and has already completed their sentence.
Investigation and Arrest Timeline
The Vancouver Police Department conducted a comprehensive investigation that lasted over a year following the initial kidnapping. Three of the four suspects were arrested and had charges recommended in April 2024, exactly one year after the crime occurred. The fourth suspect was charged at a later date.
Const.
