Man dies after being found unresponsive in Windsor parking lot

A man in his early twenties has died after being discovered unresponsive in an east Windsor parking lot on New Year's Day, prompting a police investigation.

Police Respond to Distress Call

Officers from the Windsor Police Service were called to the scene behind a commercial building in the 5100 block of Tecumseh Road East shortly after 11 a.m. on January 1, 2026. The call was regarding a person who was unresponsive.

Upon arrival, first responders located a young man who was unconscious and in clear medical distress. He was immediately transported to a local hospital for emergency care.

Victim Succumbs to Injuries

The victim's condition was initially described as critical. In an update posted on social media around 7 p.m. on Thursday, Windsor police confirmed he remained in critical condition.

Tragically, about two hours later, police issued a second statement confirming the man had passed away in hospital. The police service extended its condolences, stating, "Our thoughts are with the man’s family and loved ones during this difficult time."

Major Crimes Unit Launches Investigation

The Windsor Police Service Major Crimes Unit has now taken the lead in investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. While the exact cause of death is not yet public, the involvement of the major crimes unit indicates police are treating the death as suspicious.

Authorities are actively seeking information from the public to assist their investigation. They are asking for anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the area of Tecumseh Road East on January 1st, or who saw the victim prior to the incident, to come forward.

The victim is described as a Black male in his early 20s. He was last seen wearing a black button-up shirt, jeans, and white running shoes.

Police are also urging residents and business owners in the immediate vicinity to review their security camera or dash camera footage from around the time of the incident for any potentially relevant video.
