Woman Faces 50+ Charges in York Region Break-In Spree, Linked to 9 Incidents
Markham, Vaughan woman charged in 9 commercial break-ins

York Regional Police have laid a significant number of charges against a woman they allege is responsible for a series of commercial break-ins across two Greater Toronto Area cities.

Nine Incidents Linked to Single Suspect

Investigators state that a 39-year-old woman, Michelle Wright, of no fixed address, is now facing a slew of charges connected to nine separate commercial break-and-enters that occurred in Markham and Vaughan. The alleged crimes took place between September and November of 2025.

The police investigation intensified following an overnight break-in at an electronics store near Markham Road and 14th Avenue on October 14, 2025. According to Constable Kevin Nebrija, multiple suspects broke into the rear of the business, stole electronics, and fled. This incident led officers to identify Wright as a suspect.

Arrest and Connection to Past Crimes

Wright was arrested on January 6, 2026. Following her arrest, police allege they linked her to four commercial break-and-enters in Vaughan and four others in Markham, in addition to the initial electronics store incident. Two other suspects from the October break-in remain at large.

This is not Wright's first encounter with York Regional Police. She was previously charged, along with 50-year-old Charles Duguay, in February 2023. In that case, the pair faced a combined 50 charges for a string of break-ins at convenience and jewelry stores across York Region and Toronto, occurring between October 2022 and February 2023. At the time of that arrest, they were allegedly found with stolen vehicles, stolen property, and illegal drugs. The outcome of those earlier charges is not currently known.

A Lengthy List of New Charges

The new charges against Michelle Wright are extensive. They include:

  • Eight counts of break-and-enter with intent
  • Eight counts of possession of break-and-enter instruments
  • Nine counts of breach of probation
  • Two counts of driving while prohibited
  • One count of possession of property obtained by crime

Police are continuing their investigation and urge anyone with information to contact York Regional Police at 1-866-876-5423, extension 7545, or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
