Missing Calgary Senior Found Deceased in Saskatchewan, RCMP Confirms No Foul Play

The two-week search for a missing Calgary senior has concluded in tragedy, with RCMP locating the body of 82-year-old Diane Cooper in Saskatchewan on Saturday. Authorities have confirmed that foul play is not suspected in her death.

Details of the Disappearance and Discovery

Diane Cooper was reported missing to Consort RCMP on April 6, after she left Calgary around 3:30 p.m. that day. She was last seen in Hoosier, Saskatchewan, on April 7, traveling with her Dalmatian, Halo. In a Sunday update, Alberta RCMP Corporal Gina Slaney announced that Cooper was found in the rural municipality of Grandview, near Kindersley, Saskatchewan, at approximately 7:40 p.m. on Saturday.

"Unfortunately, she was located deceased," Slaney said in a release. "Her dog Halo was also located, and he is safe. The circumstances surrounding her death are not suspicious. RCMP sends condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Cooper."

Family Response and Community Support

Zoe Cooper, Diane's granddaughter, expressed the family's grief in a Facebook post, thanking the community for their support during the search. "Our grandma has unfortunately passed away," Zoe wrote. "While this is not entirely unexpected, we are absolutely brokenhearted. By some miracle, our dog Halo has survived. We are so deeply grateful to everyone who helped search, shared posts and showed us kindness and support during this incredibly difficult time. It meant more to us than we can express."

The search effort involved multiple RCMP detachments in Alberta and Saskatchewan, along with RCMP air services helicopter patrols. Despite the extensive resources deployed, the outcome was a somber one for all involved.

Investigation and Conclusion

RCMP reiterated that foul play is not suspected in Cooper's death, providing some closure to the investigation. The case highlights the challenges and emotional toll of missing persons searches, particularly involving vulnerable seniors. The community's outpouring of support underscores the impact such events have on families and local residents.
