Police in Kingston have confirmed the arrest and charging of an Ottawa Police Services officer in connection with off-duty intimate partner violence allegations. The case, which originated from a request by the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) in March, has led to multiple charges including assault, criminal harassment, and firearm-related offenses.
Investigation Details
Kingston police stated that they received a request from OPS in March to conduct a further investigation into an OPS member who had already been arrested and charged with one count of assault and one count of criminal harassment. The officer was initially released with conditions and scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
Following the request, Kingston police continued their investigation, which provided reasonable grounds to charge the officer with additional offenses: one count of careless use of a firearm and one count of careless storage of a firearm.
Arrest and Release
The accused was rearrested on Monday and subsequently released on an undertaking with conditions. The officer is scheduled to appear in court at a later date to face all charges.
Kingston police have emphasized that no further details will be released to protect the privacy of those involved and to maintain the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
This case highlights the serious nature of intimate partner violence and the commitment of law enforcement to hold individuals accountable, regardless of their profession. The Ottawa Police Service has not yet issued a public statement regarding the charges.
