Regina police have delivered a somber update in the long-running investigation into the disappearance of Nakita Jade Harris, stating they now believe the missing woman is likely deceased. The announcement came during a press conference at police headquarters on Thursday, January 15, 2026, where Deputy Chief Laurel Marshall renewed urgent calls for public assistance.
A Shift in the Investigation Based on Circumstances
Deputy Chief Marshall explained that the Regina Police Service's (RPS) assessment of Harris's case has shifted based on a "totality of circumstances." Despite an extensive investigation, authorities have found no signs of life since she vanished.
"All the information that has been gathered, there's no indication that she's still alive," Marshall stated. Investigators have uncovered no activity on Harris's bank or social media accounts and have no record of her accessing healthcare or other public services since her disappearance.
Timeline of a Disappearance
Nakita Jade Harris was last physically seen at a residence on the 2200 block of Broder Street in October 2023. The last time anyone heard from her was in early November 2023. However, she was not reported missing to police until April 2024, at which point the formal investigation began.
Marshall noted that while Harris was considered a vulnerable person, her prolonged silence is deeply out of character. Family members find it unthinkable that she would miss holidays or family birthdays, and she was always closely connected to her young daughter.
A Family's Heartbreak and a Plea for Answers
The emotional toll on Harris's family was highlighted during the update. A statement from her mother, Paula Murphy, was read by Victim Services coordinator Rhonda Fiddler. "She is dearly missed and we need to bring her home," the statement conveyed.
Deputy Chief Marshall emphasized that Harris's mother and daughter are desperate for closure. "Her family was always connected. Missing holidays or family birthdays was not like her. She was always connected to her daughter, especially," Marshall said, underscoring the urgency of the case.
Police have released an updated description of Harris in hopes it may jog someone's memory:
- Height: 5'5" with a medium build, approximately 150 pounds.
- Eyes: Hazel.
- Hair: Black at the time of her disappearance, but she was known to change her appearance with wigs.
- Distinguishing Features: Numerous tattoos including a skull and butterfly on her upper arm, a compass on her left elbow, a campfire on her left forearm, an octopus on her right hand, and a septum nose piercing.
- She has also gone by her middle name, Jade.
