Toronto Police have issued a public appeal for help in identifying a man wanted in connection with a frightening sexual assault that occurred in downtown Toronto last weekend. Investigators are urging anyone with information to come forward as they work to solve this disturbing case.
Details of the Incident
The assault took place near Church Street and The Esplanade around 6:45 a.m. on Sunday, April 19, 2026. According to police statements released on Wednesday, the suspect allegedly approached the victim from behind, forced them to an isolated area, and then sexually assaulted them.
Fortunately, passersby intervened during the attack, causing the suspect to flee the scene. The gender and age of the victim have not been disclosed by authorities at this time.
Suspect Description and Evidence
Police have released images and video footage of the unidentified suspect in hopes that members of the public will recognize him. The man is described as Black, between 25 and 30 years old, approximately 5-foot-10 in height, with a thin build.
At the time of the incident, he was wearing a green or grey jacket, a grey hooded sweater, dark baggy pants, and dark Nike shoes. A key piece of evidence is a distinctive black Lacoste backpack with white lettering and the alligator logo that he was carrying.
