The Regina Police Service (RPS) recorded a significant and concerning rise in homicides during 2025, with the number of incidents nearly doubling compared to the previous year. The force documented 11 homicides in 2025, which represents an increase of five from the six homicides recorded in 2024. The 2024 figure had marked a five-year low for the city, making the 2025 surge particularly stark.
A Concerning Reversal of the Trend
In a year-end discussion, the city's new police chief, Lorilee Davies, acknowledged the troubling shift. "I would say there isn't a lot we can do preventively, specific to homicides," Chief Davies stated, while emphasizing the importance of ongoing efforts in drug interdiction and gang intervention as key strategies to hold individuals accountable and address underlying causes of violent crime.
A positive note from the annual report is that police filed charges in relation to all 11 homicides. However, the judicial process for many of these cases remains ongoing, with numerous matters still active before the courts.
A Detailed Look at the 2025 Homicide Cases
The victims and the charges laid in connection with their deaths are detailed below, based on information from police releases and court documents.

In a subsequent court proceeding in October, Britain Volk pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and received a life sentence.
Looking Ahead for Regina
The jump from a recent low of six homicides to 11 in a single year presents a clear challenge for Regina's law enforcement and community leaders. While the police highlight their proactive work on gangs and drugs, the data underscores the complex and persistent nature of violent crime in the city. The outcomes of the pending court cases will be closely watched as the community seeks justice for the victims and works to understand the factors behind this annual increase.
