Three Teens Arrested in Calgary Teen's Killing

Three 15-year-old boys are facing serious charges in what Calgary police describe as the premeditated killing of 16-year-old Carter Spivak-Villeneuve, a case that has shocked the community with its senseless violence and young age of those involved.

Charges and Arrests in the Case

Two of the teenage suspects have been charged with first-degree murder, while charges remain pending for the third boy, according to a Calgary Police Service news release issued on Thursday. The investigation reveals that the suspects were known to Carter and had arranged to meet him on the night of his death.

One suspect was arrested in Calgary on Wednesday and appeared in court the following day. Another was taken into custody by RCMP on the Muskowekwan First Nation in Saskatchewan on November 4 and is scheduled to appear in Calgary court on Friday. Police have not yet laid charges against the third suspect who was also arrested.

The Tragic Night of August 1

The incident unfolded in the early hours of August 1, 2025, when police responded to reports of a person in medical distress in the 300 block of Abergale Drive N.E. around 1:20 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of a teenage male, later identified as Spivak-Villeneuve. An autopsy confirmed the death was a homicide, with police alleging it resulted from an ongoing dispute between the victim and his assailants.

Community and Family Devastation

Calgary police Staff Sgt. Sean Gregson of the homicide unit expressed deep concern about the ages of those involved, stating: "The loss of Carter is a devastating reminder of how seemingly insignificant conflict between youth can escalate with irreversible consequences. Carter's death was senseless and the lives of everyone involved have now been forever changed."

In a statement provided by police on behalf of the family shortly after his death, Carter was remembered as "very caring, giving and loyal" with a smile that "would light up any dark room." The family noted he had ambitions that will never be realized because his life was cut short.

A family friend, who requested anonymity, described the teen as "full of life and love" and "a sweet boy who just wanted to be loved by everyone."

Due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act provisions, the identities of the accused cannot be released to the public.

Police continue to seek information about Spivak-Villeneuve's killing and urge anyone with details to contact them at 403-266-1234 or submit anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers.
