Peel Regional Police have made a significant arrest in connection with a tragic hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a pedestrian in Mississauga. The collision occurred in the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 15, at the intersection of Hurontario Street and Derry Road.
Fatal Hit-and-Run Details
According to police reports, an SUV struck a 47-year-old pedestrian at the intersection. The driver of the SUV allegedly fled the scene without stopping. Tragically, the pedestrian was then struck and dragged by another vehicle. The driver of this second vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Despite emergency response efforts, the pedestrian succumbed to their injuries.
Investigators have identified and charged 61-year-old Sergio Dacosta from Toronto with failing to stop at the scene of a collision resulting in death. Police have also seized the vehicle believed to be involved in the initial impact. This development marks a crucial step in the ongoing investigation into this fatal incident.
Hamilton Robbery Arrest
In a separate law enforcement action, Hamilton Police have apprehended a suspect in connection with two armed robberies that occurred in the city's east end. The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Trevor Dorion, allegedly committed two knifepoint robberies at a convenience store—one on April 10 and another in December 2025.
Police executed a search warrant at a residence in the east end, where they discovered evidence linking Dorion to the crimes. He now faces multiple charges including armed robbery, robbery with intent to steal, and disguise with intent. Hamilton Police are continuing their investigation and have urged anyone with additional information to contact their BEAR Unit.
Additional Police Actions
Toronto Police also reported an arrest following a demonstration in the Yonge Street and Dundas Street area last Saturday. Authorities allege that 26-year-old Caleb Gladwin approached a person who was recording the demonstration, assaulted them, and stole their cellphone. Gladwin attempted to flee but was apprehended by officers. He now faces charges of robbery and possession of property obtained by crime.
Meanwhile, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has launched an investigation into a serious motorcycle crash in Vaughan. The incident occurred on Sunday night when a York Regional Police officer responded to an emergency call on Purcell Crescent. Upon encountering a man on a motorcycle, the officer activated cruiser lights, prompting the rider to flee. The motorcycle subsequently crashed, resulting in serious but non-life-threatening injuries to the 42-year-old rider. The SIU is appealing to the public for any information regarding this incident.
