Toronto Police Arrest Three in Carjacking Spree, Fourth Suspect Wanted
In a significant development for public safety, Toronto Police have apprehended three men following a series of carjackings and vehicle thefts that rattled the city. Authorities are actively searching for a fourth suspect believed to be involved in these crimes, which unfolded between late March and early April 2026.
Details of the Carjacking Incidents
The spree began on March 26, 2026, at approximately 11 a.m., when three masked individuals approached a woman as she exited her vehicle in the Lawrence Avenue West and Avenue Road area. According to police, the suspects demanded her keys and fled in her car, along with their original vehicle. A video released by Toronto Police captured this alarming event, highlighting the brazen nature of the attack.
Further incidents occurred on April 3, 2026, starting with the theft of a parked vehicle in the Avenue Road and Glengarry Avenue area around 2 a.m. Later that day, at about 9 a.m., two masked men forcibly removed a victim from her car in the Bayview Avenue and Hillsdale Avenue East area, stealing the vehicle without causing injuries. A third carjacking took place at 1:15 p.m. in the Wicksteed Avenue and Laird Drive area, where two men assaulted a victim, stole her purse and car keys, and escaped in an awaiting vehicle.
Arrests and Charges
On April 5, 2026, police officers observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the Don Mills Road and Lawrence Avenue East area. After pulling over the vehicle, they arrested three Toronto men through a swift investigation. The suspects face multiple charges:
- A 21-year-old man was charged with driving with cannabis in open packaging, two counts of possession of a device for theft, seven counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and possession of a break-in instrument.
- Two other men, aged 19 and 18, were each charged with possession of a device for theft, possession of a break-in instrument, and four counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
Police Chief Myron Demkiw commended the efforts of officers from the Hold-Up Squad and 33 Division, stating on social media, "Excellent work by officers to make arrests for violent carjackings. These are extremely frightening incidents for the victims."
