A Sister's Tribute to Courage and Truth
"She was very brave," said her younger sister, Alishaa Grewal, 36, speaking from her home in Mumbai, India. "I want people to remember she spoke fearlessly and she spoke truthfully." Alishaa described the day of her sister's death as "a very bad day for us" and emphasized that "she died a tragic death."
The sisters maintained an exceptionally close relationship despite the geographical distance between Canada and India. They communicated multiple times daily through video calls, with Nancy often calling first thing in the morning while cooking breakfast and caring for her dog. "Now, every time my phone rings, I still think it's her," Alishaa shared emotionally. "I'm watching my phone ... maybe it will be her. I'm missing that very badly right now."
From Professional Singer to Canadian Immigrant
Nancy Grewal moved to Canada from India in 2018 to be with her then-husband, an India-born engineer living in Windsor. Prior to her relocation, she had pursued a career as a professional singer in her home country. According to her sister, the separation that followed was "calm and mutual."
"She loved to make videos of her singing," Alishaa recalled, noting that the sisters were "very close" and that Nancy would share everything with her. Their conversations typically revolved around everyday life activities such as cooking, shopping, family matters, and staying active—what Alishaa fondly referred to as "girl stuff."
A Playful Spirit with Caregiving Roots
Family members described Nancy as "kind-hearted and jolly" with a noticeable playful streak. Her sister acknowledged she could be "a little naughty" at times and was known for her ability to joke and make others laugh. This cheerful disposition was rooted in her childhood, where she assumed a caregiving role at home while their mother worked long hours.
"She was the one who raised me," Alishaa revealed. "She also used to tease me." This early responsibility seemed to foreshadow her later career as a personal support worker, where she provided care and assistance to others.

Beyond her caregiving work, Nancy Grewal maintained an active presence as a social media influencer and was a vocal critic of the Khalistan Indian separatist movement. Her online activism drew international attention following her death. In November preceding her murder, she shared a social media video detailing how someone had attempted to set her house on fire, expressing genuine fear for her safety.
