A 58-year-old man from Clarington, Ontario, has been arrested by the Durham Regional Police Service's Hate Crime and Extremism Unit for allegedly making antisemitic death threats online. The threats were posted on the social media platform X.

Investigation Details

According to police, the Vancouver Police Department initially contacted the Hate Crime and Extremism Unit about the threats. Investigators identified David Edward Smith as the suspect and executed a search warrant at his residence on Tuesday. Smith was taken into custody without incident.

Charges and Release

Smith has been charged with uttering death threats. He was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
