Calgary Fire Crews Respond to Northwest Blaze in Citadel Community
On Sunday, April 19, 2026, the Calgary Fire Department swiftly responded to a significant fire in the northwest community of Citadel, resulting in damage to three homes. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident, which has drawn attention to fire safety measures in residential areas.
Fire Contained to Three Houses, Source Under Investigation
According to CFD Battalion Chief Shane Pascoe, crews arrived at the scene along the 100 block of Citadel Meadow Bay N.W. after receiving multiple calls about a house fire. "When crews arrived, the one house was completely involved in fire with heavy smoke coming out of it," Pascoe stated. "The house on the left and the right both were also getting impinged by fire. We deployed an aerial ladder with a master stream to try and stop the houses from catching on fire beside it. We knocked it down with that and hand lines."
The fire was successfully contained to the three affected houses, with the source house still under investigation. Authorities confirmed that no one was home at the time of the fire, which helped prevent any casualties. "There's been no injuries so far," Pascoe added, noting that four people from neighboring houses had to be evacuated as a precaution.
Fire Crews to Remain on Scene Overnight
Fire crews were expected to remain on the scene until Monday morning due to the extent of the damage. "Hopefully the fire will be out within the next couple of hours, but I'm not sure," Pascoe explained. "It just depends on wind and conditions. But we'll be there for the rest of the night with our investigators." Community members have been advised to avoid the area while firefighters work to fully extinguish the blaze and conduct their investigation.

In light of the incident, Pascoe issued a reminder to residents about fire safety. "Just make sure if you're charging electronics or if you have any smoke materials outside, that you're properly putting them out and that electronics being charged are monitored and unplugged once they're charged up," he emphasized. This advice comes as a proactive measure to prevent similar incidents in the future, highlighting the importance of vigilance with common household items.
