A driver was taken to hospital following a single-vehicle rollover crash in downtown Edmonton on Wednesday morning, which also caused temporary disruptions to the Valley Line LRT service.
Crash details and response
Emergency crews responded to the scene at the intersection of 102 Street and 103 Avenue around 9:30 a.m. on June 24, 2026. The vehicle, a sedan, had flipped onto its roof, coming to rest in the middle of the road. The driver, whose identity has not been released, was extricated by firefighters and transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Edmonton Fire Rescue Services.
Police closed the intersection for several hours to investigate the cause of the crash. No other vehicles or pedestrians were involved. The investigation is ongoing, but officials have not indicated any impairment or charges at this time.
Impact on LRT service
The crash occurred directly over the tracks of the Valley Line Southeast LRT, which runs along 102 Street in the downtown core. As a result, train service between 102 Street and Churchill Station was temporarily suspended. Shuttle buses were deployed to transport passengers between the affected stops, according to the City of Edmonton.
Service resumed shortly after 12 p.m. once the vehicle was removed and the tracks were inspected for damage. A city spokesperson confirmed that no damage to the LRT infrastructure was reported.
Witness accounts
Witnesses at the scene described hearing a loud crash followed by the sound of screeching metal. “I looked out the window and saw the car upside down. It was pretty shocking,” said a nearby office worker who declined to be named. “The driver was conscious but looked shaken.”
Emergency responders remained on site for about three hours to clear the area and ensure safety. The cause of the rollover has not been determined, but weather conditions were clear at the time.
