Leamington is launching a door-to-door enforcement campaign this week to verify that all dog owners are complying with local licensing regulations. Starting Wednesday, municipal representatives will visit homes across the municipality to confirm that dogs are properly registered and wearing valid tags, as required under the town's animal control bylaw.
What the Bylaw Requires
According to the municipality, By-law 668-06 mandates that every person who owns or keeps a dog in Leamington must register the animal and purchase a dog tag. Additionally, no property may have more than two dogs unless it is licensed as an approved dog kennel. Officials emphasize that these rules are in place to ensure responsible pet ownership and public safety.
Identification and Fees
Municipal representatives conducting the checks will be clearly identified with official Leamington name tags. The cost of a dog tag is $55, which includes a late fee. Tags can be purchased online or in person at the Leamington Municipal Building, but cash payments are not accepted. Residents are encouraged to register their pets before officials arrive at their door to avoid any penalties.
How to Comply
The municipality advises dog owners to ensure their pets are registered and wearing the proper tags at all times. More information on dog licensing, including how to purchase tags online, is available on the municipality's website. For questions, residents can contact the municipal office.
This enforcement effort aims to increase compliance with local bylaws and promote responsible pet ownership in the community.
