A Moncton senior was injured after being dragged by her own vehicle during a theft on Friday. Brenda Warren, 72, was getting into her car outside her home on Mountain Road when a man approached, pushed her aside, and drove off with her still partially inside the vehicle.

Incident details

Warren was dragged for several meters before falling to the ground. She suffered bruises and scrapes but declined medical treatment at the scene. The suspect fled in her 2015 Hyundai Elantra.

“I was terrified,” Warren said. “I thought he was going to kill me.”

Police response

Codiac Regional Police responded to the call at around 4:30 p.m. They are searching for a male suspect in his 20s with a slim build, wearing a dark hoodie and jeans. The vehicle has New Brunswick license plate GKC 512.

“This was a brazen and violent crime,” said Constable John Smith. “We urge anyone with information to come forward.”

Impact on community

Warren’s daughter, Sarah, said her mother is shaken but recovering. “She’s lucky to be alive,” Sarah said. The incident has raised concerns about safety in the neighbourhood.
