Windsor police report that a 26-year-old man was arrested Thursday following a five-hour standoff. The suspect allegedly chased several individuals with a butcher knife before barricading himself inside his residence.
Incident Details
Officers responded to multiple calls about a person with a weapon in the 300 block of McEwan Avenue shortly before 7:30 a.m. on June 18. Police say the man, armed with a butcher knife, had chased several people in the area. No physical injuries were reported.
Standoff and Arrest
According to police, the suspect confined himself inside his home by the time officers arrived. Patrol officers, the Emergency Services Unit, and other specialized response personnel quickly established a perimeter and attempted to resolve the situation peacefully. Officers communicated with the man by phone, but he refused to come out.
During the standoff, the suspect forcibly entered a roommate's bedroom, causing damage to the door. Some of the roommate's belongings were stolen or damaged. At approximately 12:30 p.m., the man tried to escape through the rear door and was arrested after a brief struggle.
Charges Filed
The 26-year-old man faces charges including assault with a weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon, break-and-enter with intent to commit an indictable offence, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and two counts of mischief under $5,000. Windsor police have not named the suspect.
