Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy delivered a characteristically blunt response when questioned about the potential political fallout from the pending release of the Jeffrey Epstein documents, demonstrating a striking indifference to which party members might be named.
"So What!": Murphy's Unflinching Stance
The exchange occurred on CNN after former President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that he had signed the bill authorizing the full release of all Epstein-related documents. CNN anchor John Berman pressed Senator Murphy specifically about whether he feared additional Democratic names beyond former President Bill Clinton and former Harvard professor Larry Summers might surface.
"What if there are more names connected to the Democratic Party that come out as a result of this?" Berman asked.
Murphy's immediate two-word retort cut through the political posturing: "So what!"
The Democratic senator elaborated that he fully expects to find members of both major parties within the documents. "I'm sure that there are Democrats in those files. There are Republicans in those files. There are, you know, Wall Street executives who have no political affiliation," Murphy stated. "What we want is to understand who was involved in this."
Trump's Delayed Release Raises Questions
Murphy didn't hesitate to question Trump's motives in what he characterized as a "slow-roll" of the document release. The senator dismissed any notion that Trump was acting selflessly or attempting to protect friends.
"It stands to reason that [Trump] he's very much connected to this scandal," Murphy asserted, while acknowledging, "we may or may not know the extent of that, because it could be that the president is going to try to find a way to redact any information connected to him from those files."
Trump finally signed the Epstein bill after multiple attempts to delay the release since July, when U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi reportedly informed him that he was mentioned extensively throughout the files.
Beyond Partisanship: The Demand for Transparency
Murphy repeatedly emphasized that political allegiance should be irrelevant when it comes to legal accountability. "It just doesn't matter the political affiliation. The law is the law. They need to release the files," he reiterated.
This stance contrasts with Trump's recent demands for the Justice Department and FBI to investigate Epstein's ties to powerful people—specifically focusing only on those with Democratic connections like Bill Clinton, who was once a guest at Trump's wedding.
The release of previous documents has already revealed the depth of Trump's friendship with the disgraced financier and convicted sex trafficker, adding significance to the pending full disclosure of the Jeffrey Epstein files.
