A new initiative in Barrie is ensuring that veterans are not forgotten once Remembrance Day passes. The campaign, spearheaded by local advocates, encourages residents and businesses to fly a special flag honoring those who served in the Canadian Armed Forces.
Keeping the Memory Alive
Organizers say the goal is to maintain visibility and gratitude for veterans throughout the year, not just on November 11. The flag features a red poppy and a maple leaf, symbolizing remembrance and Canadian pride.
Community Response
Several local businesses have already signed up to fly the flag, and residents are being encouraged to purchase one for their homes. Proceeds from flag sales go toward veteran support programs.
“It means the world to us,” said a spokesperson for the Royal Canadian Legion in Barrie. “Veterans often feel forgotten after Remembrance Day. This flag is a constant reminder that their sacrifices are appreciated every day.”
The initiative has gained traction on social media, with many sharing photos of their flags and expressing support. The campaign hopes to expand across Ontario and eventually nationwide.
