Four members of the Alberta NDP caucus have announced they will not seek re-election in the upcoming provincial election. The opposition party made the announcement in a press release on Saturday, confirming that MLAs Joe Ceci, Dr. Luanne Metz, Marlin Schmidt, and Lori Sigurdson will not return to the legislature after the current term.
NDP Leader Thanks Departing MLAs
Alberta NDP leader Naheed Nenshi expressed gratitude for the service of the four MLAs, highlighting their dedication to community service before and during their time in elected office. "Before their time in elected office, each of them demonstrated a deep commitment to community service and improving the lives of others, and they carried that same dedication into public life," Nenshi said.
He added, "There is no doubt they will continue to contribute to their communities in meaningful ways in the years ahead. On behalf of our entire caucus, we thank them for their service and wish them every success in their next chapter."
