Bedford, N.S., RCMP have arrested a man wanted on a provincewide warrant. Matthew John Patrick Lapierre, 45, was taken into custody on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, following a brief search in the Halifax Regional Municipality area. The arrest comes after police issued a public appeal for information on Lapierre's whereabouts earlier this week.
Details of the arrest
RCMP said in a news release that Lapierre was arrested without incident at a residence in Bedford around 9:30 a.m. ADT. He is facing multiple charges related to an incident that occurred in May 2026, including assault with a weapon, uttering threats, and breach of probation. The warrant was issued on June 20, 2026, after Lapierre failed to appear in court.
Police thanked the public for their assistance in providing tips that led to the arrest. Lapierre is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court on June 25, 2026, to face the charges.
Background of the case
The incident prompting the charges took place on May 15, 2026, in a residential area of Bedford. According to RCMP, officers responded to a disturbance call and found evidence of an altercation involving a weapon. No injuries were reported at the time. Lapierre was initially arrested but released on conditions pending his court date, which he missed.
