Former Montreal Alouettes defensive back Marc-Antoine Dequoy has emerged as a potential candidate for Canada's men's flag football national team, according to sources close to the program. The 28-year-old, who spent five seasons in the Canadian Football League, is being evaluated as the sport prepares for its Olympic debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
Flag Football's Rising Profile
Flag football, a non-contact variant of American football, has gained significant traction globally since being added to the Olympic program. Canada is building a competitive squad to qualify for the Games, and Dequoy's experience and athleticism make him an intriguing prospect.
Dequoy's CFL Career
Dequoy, a native of Montreal, played 72 regular-season games for the Alouettes from 2021 to 2025, recording 8 interceptions and 3 defensive touchdowns. He was known for his speed and ball-hawking skills, traits that translate well to flag football's fast-paced format.
"Marc-Antoine has the instincts and coverage ability that could make him a standout in flag football," said a team insider. "His familiarity with Canadian rules and his competitive drive are assets."
Selection Process
Football Canada, the governing body for the sport, has begun identifying athletes from various backgrounds, including CFL veterans, university players, and track athletes. Dequoy will participate in a trial camp later this summer.
