The Calgary Hitmen have announced the appointment of Cass Bruni as their new general manager, effective immediately. The announcement was made on June 8, 2026, marking a significant leadership transition for the Western Hockey League (WHL) franchise.
Bruni's Rise Through the Ranks
Bruni, who has been with the Hitmen organization since 2017, most recently served as assistant general manager since 2024. His journey with the team began as a video coach before transitioning to the scouting staff in 2020. Over the past decade, Bruni has developed a deep understanding of the team's operations and player development philosophy.
“I am honoured to lead the Hitmen as we aspire to be the premier junior hockey development program in North America,” Bruni said in a news release. “I would like to thank CSEC ownership, Robert Hayes, president and CEO, and Mike Moore, vice-president of the Calgary Hitmen, for their confidence in me as I take on this tremendous opportunity.”
Davidson's New Role
Outgoing general manager Garry Davidson, who was a finalist for WHL Executive of the Year in consecutive seasons, will transition to a hockey operations advisory role. Davidson joined the Hitmen as director of player personnel in 2021 and became GM in 2023. Prior to his time in Calgary, he served as general manager of the Everett Silvertips from 2012 to 2021, where he built a strong reputation for player development.
“We have planned this transition for a few seasons and today is a great step forward for the Hitmen organization,” Moore said in a written statement. “Garry has been instrumental in the success of our team since he joined us and has been impactful in our playoff success in the past two seasons, while also mentoring Cass.”
Leadership and Background
Moore also highlighted Bruni’s professional credentials, including his background in engineering and law, as valuable assets for the team. “His 10 years with the Hitmen have also provided him the foundation for his role as general manager,” Moore added. “We are excited to have Cass and Garry as part of the Hitmen organization.”
Under Davidson's leadership, the Hitmen experienced significant playoff success in the past two seasons. His advisory role will ensure continuity and support for Bruni as he takes the helm.
The Hitmen organization, owned by CSEC, continues to prioritize building a winning culture and developing young talent. With Bruni at the helm, the team aims to build on its recent successes and establish itself as a premier destination for junior hockey players.
