Calgary Surge Start CEBL Season 0-2 After Loss to Brampton Honey Badgers
Calgary Surge 0-2 to Start CEBL Season

The Calgary Surge have encountered a sluggish beginning to their 2026 Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) campaign, both in individual games and in the overall season standings. The team currently holds an 0-2 record after falling to the Brampton Honey Badgers in their latest contest.

Loss to Brampton Honey Badgers

On Sunday, the Surge suffered a 91-72 defeat at the CAA Centre in Brampton, Ontario. This loss followed an earlier 93-88 road defeat to the Ottawa Blackjacks in Week 1 of the CEBL schedule last Tuesday. The team's slow starts have been a recurring issue, particularly in the first half of games.

First-Half Struggles

Against the Honey Badgers, the Surge were outscored 26-16 in the first quarter and 21-14 in the second quarter, resulting in a 47-30 halftime deficit. While Calgary managed to hold their own in the second half, with a 22-20 third quarter and a 22-22 final period, the early gap proved insurmountable.

Player Performances

Addison Patterson and Olumide Adelodun led the Surge in scoring with 18 points each. Trevon Scott contributed 16 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Patterson, Adelodun, and Gabe Levin started as forwards, while Eval Gilyard II and Jon Elmore were the starting guards. Captain Elmore logged the most playing time among starters, but bench player Scott made a significant impact, shooting 6-of-8 on two-point attempts.

Upcoming Games

The Surge will continue their season-opening road trip with a third consecutive away game next Sunday against the Vancouver Bandits. Their first home game is scheduled for Thursday, May 28, against the Scarborough Shooting Stars at WinSport Event Centre, starting at 7:30 p.m. ET.
