Hurricanes Dominate Senators, Take 3-0 Series Lead

The Carolina Hurricanes continued their dominant playoff run, defeating the Ottawa Senators 4-2 in Game 3 of their first-round series on Thursday night in Ottawa. The victory gives the Hurricanes a commanding 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven series, putting them one win away from advancing to the second round.

The game was not without concern for the Senators, as defenseman Jake Sanderson exited the contest early due to an injury. The extent of the injury is not yet known, but his absence was felt as the Hurricanes capitalized on the Senators' weakened defensive core.

Carolina opened the scoring in the first period with a goal from Sebastian Aho, who continues to be a playoff standout. The Hurricanes extended their lead in the second period with tallies from Teuvo Teravainen and Andrei Svechnikov, putting them ahead 3-0. The Senators fought back in the third period, with Drake Batherson scoring to cut the deficit to 3-1, and later Tim Stutzle added another to make it 3-2. However, the Hurricanes sealed the victory with an empty-net goal from Jordan Staal in the final minutes.

Hurricanes goaltender Frederik Andersen was solid in net, making 28 saves on 30 shots. Senators netminder Joonas Korpisalo stopped 31 of 34 shots but could not prevent the loss.

The series now shifts back to Carolina for Game 4, where the Hurricanes will look to complete the sweep. The Senators, meanwhile, face an uphill battle to avoid elimination.
