Basketball fans will see more of Toronto Raptors legend Kyle Lowry on their screens this fall when NBA on Prime launches in Canada. Lowry, 40, has joined the panel ahead of the 2025-26 season, appearing during select games while continuing to play for the Philadelphia 76ers.
In Toronto this week to help announce his role, Lowry expressed his desire to share his basketball knowledge and provide commentary from a player's perspective. "You'll see a guy who knows what he's talking about and who's going to be straightforward," Lowry told Postmedia. "A guy that's honest and open and tries to give you the perspective of a player and a coach. I'm going to share the knowledge and share the game that I see. The way the game should be operated and the way certain plays should be run. I'll be a coach on TV."
Over 20 NBA seasons, Lowry earned six All-Star selections and won an NBA championship with Toronto. During his nine years as a Raptor, he ranks first in franchise history in assists (4,277), steals (873), three-pointers (1,518), and triple-doubles (18). He played 601 games for Toronto, second only to DeMar DeRozan.
On NBA on Prime, Lowry will be joined by former players including Blake Griffin, Dirk Nowitzki, Udonis Haslem, and Steve Nash. Host Taylor Rooks told Postmedia the panel aims to "educate, inform, and entertain" basketball fans. "We have vivacious personalities and debates," Rooks said. "Canadian fans can expect a broadcast that makes the game and the players the main character."
Lowry's Retirement Plans
Although he hasn't played for Toronto since 2021, Lowry reiterated his intention to sign a one-day contract and retire as a Raptor. "I have not thought about that," he said regarding retirement timing. "But I'm excited for what the future holds. It's going to be a great time. As I always said, I will retire as a Raptor, and that still holds true."
Often called the G.R.O.A.T. (Greatest Raptor of All Time), Lowry's No. 7 jersey is expected to be retired when he officially walks away. Asked about seeing his name alongside Vince Carter's No. 15, Lowry said it will be an emotional night. "I'm going to try not to cry," he said. "Vince Carter showed his emotions, and it was such an amazing time. I'm looking forward to that moment."
Looking Ahead
With the Raptors now led by Scottie Barnes, Lowry praised the team's direction. "These guys have a good thing going," he said, highlighting Barnes, Jamal Shead, and head coach Darko Rajakovic. "This organization is in a great place right now."
As the New York Knicks head to the NBA Finals for the first time in 27 years after sweeping Lowry's 76ers, Lowry expressed support for former teammate OG Anunoby. "He's my guy," Lowry said.
Reflecting on his favorite moments as a Raptor, Lowry recalled the 2019 Eastern Conference Finals Game 6 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks at Scotiabank Arena. "My favourite moment was when we beat the Milwaukee Bucks in Game 6 and I had an opportunity to pick up my kids," he said, referencing his joyous on-court celebration. "That was probably my favourite moment inside Scotiabank Arena."
