Kyle Lowry, widely regarded as the Greatest Raptor of All Time (GROAT), has shared his personal Mount Rushmore of the all-time greatest Toronto Raptors players. The list, which includes himself, DeMar DeRozan, Vince Carter, and a surprising fourth pick, has sparked debate among fans.
Lowry's Mount Rushmore selections
During a recent interview with Please Relate To This, Lowry was asked to name his Mount Rushmore of Raptors legends. He quickly selected himself, DeMar DeRozan, and Vince Carter—names that would appear on most fans' lists. However, his fourth choice raised eyebrows: Alvin Williams.
Williams played eight seasons for the Raptors from 1998 to 2006, averaging 9.3 points and 4.3 assists per game. He peaked during the 2002-03 season with 13.2 points and 5.3 assists. A second-round draft pick by the Portland Trail Blazers, Williams was traded to Toronto in the deal that sent Damon Stoudamire to Portland.
Fan reactions and alternative picks
While Williams has his supporters, many fans were quick to suggest other candidates for the fourth spot. Kawhi Leonard, who led the Raptors to their only NBA championship in 2019 and won Finals MVP, was a popular choice. However, some argue that his single season in Toronto disqualifies him from such an honor.
Other names mentioned include Chris Bosh, a long-time leader and star before leaving for Miami, and Pascal Siakam, a homegrown talent who played a key role in the 2019 championship run. Damon Stoudamire, the team's first-ever draft pick and initial star, also received mentions. Scottie Barnes was noted as a future candidate if he continues his rise to stardom.
Lowry, who recently finished his final NBA season with the Philadelphia 76ers, has expressed his desire to sign a one-day contract to retire as a Raptor. His nine seasons in Toronto included six All-Star appearances and the franchise's only championship in 2019.
