The Toronto Raptors announced that six-time All-Star guard Kyle Lowry will sign a one-day contract to officially retire as a member of the team. The franchise also revealed plans to retire Lowry's No. 7 jersey during the upcoming 2026-27 NBA season.
Lowry's Legacy with the Raptors
Lowry played nine seasons with the Raptors from 2012 to 2021, becoming the franchise's all-time leader in assists (4,277) and steals (898), while ranking second in three-pointers made (1,518) and fourth in points (10,540). He was a key figure in leading Toronto to its first NBA championship in 2019.
"Kyle Lowry is the heart and soul of Raptors basketball," said Raptors president Masai Ujiri in a statement. "His competitive fire, leadership, and commitment to this city and country made him a legend. We are thrilled to welcome him home one last time and honor his incredible career."
Details of the Ceremony
The one-day contract signing will take place at Scotiabank Arena later this month, with the jersey retirement ceremony scheduled for a home game against the Miami Heat on November 3, 2026. The Raptors will also pay tribute to Lowry with a video montage and special giveaways for fans.
"Toronto is my home. It always will be," Lowry said. "I gave everything I had to this team and this city, and to know that my jersey will hang in the rafters forever is something I could only dream of. I can't wait to celebrate with the best fans in the world."
Lowry's Career Beyond Toronto
After leaving the Raptors in 2021, Lowry played three seasons with the Miami Heat and one with the Philadelphia 76ers before retiring in 2025. He averaged 14.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 7.3 assists over 18 NBA seasons.
Lowry becomes the seventh player in Raptors history to have his jersey retired, joining Vince Carter (No. 15), Chris Bosh (No. 4), and others. The ceremony is expected to draw a sellout crowd as fans celebrate one of the most beloved players in franchise history.
