Saskatoon High School Golf City Championship at The Willows

The Saskatoon city high school golf season is coming to a close with the city championship scheduled for Tuesday at The Willows Golf Club. The season featured a nine-hole event at Silverwood Golf Course on May 26, setting the stage for the final competition.

Aden Bowman Bears

Coach: Sharon Harvey

Golfers to watch:

  • Jack Maharaj – Grade 12, senior boys.
  • Griffin Blanch – Grade 12, senior boys.

Expectations for the team this year:

“Our junior boys team is growing and we are excited to see them perform at cities – they will be a strong force in the future. Our senior boys are all graduating this year and will have their final performance this year at cities. It will be bittersweet for our team, and we hope to legitimately bring home that trophy. For the first time in many years, we will be walking onto the course with a full roster on our girls side. We are excited for the season and to watch our golfers grow and compete.”

Bethlehem Stars

Coach: Jacquie & Christopher Harris

Golfers to watch:

  • Maksim Zirk – Grade 12, senior boys. Will be Bethlehem’s best player at the high school championships.

Results from last year:

“Last season was not about results, but continuing to build a love-of-the-game program.”

Expectations for the team this year:

“We have 38 golfers, three experienced, 28 returning players who continue to learn the game and seven athletes that are taking up the sport for the first time. Our goal will continue to be welcoming all levels who want to improve or learn the great game of golf.”

Centennial Chargers

Coach: Shane Wingert & Kori Herner

Golfers to watch:

  • Oliver Matyczuk – Grade 12, senior boys. Final year of competing and has been competitive all four years.
  • Violet Puff – Grade 12, senior girls. Has been a member of the Saskatoon provincial team the last two years so looking for another strong finish.

Results from last year:

“Middle of the pack.”

Expectations for the team this year:

“Hoping for some good individual and team performances with a relatively new group of golfers.”

E.D. Feehan Trojans

Coach: Matthew Harbidge

Golfers to watch:

  • Emmett Peters – Grade 10. Loves the game and continues to get better. Put in lots of work at the golf dome over the winter.

Results from last year:

“A lot of golfers new to the game that learned the etiquette necessary to play golf in the future.”

Expectations for the team this year:

“We have pretty well a brand-new team from last year, looking forward to teaching them this beautiful game.”

Mount Royal Mustangs

Coach: Ms. Moore

Golfers to watch:

“All of our MRC golfers! This is the first time Mount Royal has had a golf team for a few years.”

The 2026 season promises to be an exciting one with plenty of opportunity for athletes to shine. The city championship will determine the top high school golf teams in Saskatoon.
