Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez celebrated the New York Knicks' dramatic Game 4 comeback victory over the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals on Wednesday night by taking a subtle jab at President Donald Trump. Without directly naming him, she expressed gratitude to those who performed a cleansing ritual at Madison Square Garden (MSG) to remove negative energy.
On X, she wrote: "THANK YOU TO THE PEOPLE WHO BLESSED MSG TODAY TO GET THE STANK VIBES OUT YOUR SERVICE IS APPRECIATED". This came after Trump was loudly booed and jeered during Game 3 at MSG on Monday. Fans blamed him for jinxing the team after the Knicks lost, snapping a 13-game winning streak that coincided with his presence.
Following Trump's visit, sports media personality Kazeem Famuyide organized a group of Knicks fans to "cleanse" the arena by burning sage and incense. He wrote on X: "We gotta clean this bih out before Wednesday" and later posted footage of the ritual. The cleansing appeared to work, as the Knicks secured a vital win in Game 4 to take a 3-1 series lead.
Famuyide responded to Ocasio-Cortez's message with "Got you!!!", to which she replied with a series of emojis. The Knicks now have an opportunity to close out the series on Saturday in San Antonio and win their first NBA title since 1973.
