The Toronto Blue Jays secured a narrow 2-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday night, thanks to a bases-loaded walk in the later stages of the game. The win improves Toronto's record as they continue their road trip.
Game Highlights
Andrés Giménez provided an early spark for the Blue Jays, hitting a solo home run in the third inning to give Toronto a 1-0 lead. The Orioles responded with a run of their own in the fourth inning, tying the game at 1-1.
The game remained deadlocked until the seventh inning, when the Blue Jays loaded the bases against Baltimore's bullpen. A patient at-bat resulted in a walk, forcing in the go-ahead run and putting Toronto ahead 2-1.
Pitching Duel
Both starting pitchers turned in solid performances. Toronto's starter allowed just one run over six innings, striking out five while scattering four hits. Baltimore's starter matched him, giving up one run on five hits over six frames.
The Blue Jays' bullpen took over from there, with three relievers combining for three scoreless innings to preserve the lead. The Orioles threatened in the ninth, putting two runners on base, but Toronto's closer induced a game-ending groundout to secure the win.
Key Moment
The decisive play came in the seventh inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, Blue Jays designated hitter worked a full count before taking a close pitch for ball four, forcing in the winning run.
"We just needed one guy to come through in that situation," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider. "The guys did a great job of working the count and getting that walk. It wasn't pretty, but we'll take it."
Looking Ahead
The Blue Jays and Orioles continue their four-game series on Friday. Toronto will send right-hander Kevin Gausman to the mound against Baltimore's Dean Kremer. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET.
