Tiger Woods Enters Treatment After DUI Arrest, No Masters Return

Tiger Woods Announces Treatment Program Following DUI Arrest in Florida

Golf superstar Tiger Woods has voluntarily entered a treatment program following his recent arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence in Florida. The five-time Masters champion made the announcement via social media, stating he will step away from public life to focus on his recovery and long-term health.

End of Masters Comeback Speculation

This decision officially ends any lingering speculation about whether Woods would participate in next week's Masters Tournament at Augusta National. The 50-year-old golfer has not competed on the PGA Tour since rupturing his Achilles tendon in March 2025 and underwent lumbar disc replacement surgery in October 2025.

"I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today," Woods wrote in his social media statement. "I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery."

Details of the Florida Incident

The arrest occurred in Jupiter Island after Woods rolled his Land Rover while attempting to avoid rear-ending a work truck in the upscale neighborhood near his residence. Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek stated that Woods exhibited signs of impairment during the incident.

"Mr. Woods did exemplify signs of impairment," Budensiek said following the crash. "He co-operated with the breathalyzer, and then the urine sample he wanted no part of."

According to police reports, officers found two loose pills in Woods' left pants pocket during a search following the crash. The pills were allegedly hydrocodone, a powerful semi-synthetic opioid used to treat severe pain.

Legal Proceedings and Previous History

Woods spent eight hours in jail following the arrest, consistent with Florida policy for suspected DUI cases. Earlier this week, he pleaded not guilty to charges of DUI and property damage, waiving his arraignment and demanding a trial by jury.

This marks Woods' second DUI-related incident. In 2017, he was charged with DUI after police found him asleep at the wheel of his car on the side of the road. He pleaded guilty in that case, entered a treatment program, and received one year of probation.

The golf legend has endured numerous injuries throughout his career, including:

  • Eight back surgeries
  • Five knee surgeries
  • A ruptured Achilles tendon in 2025
  • Lumbar disc replacement surgery in 2025
  • A near-fatal single-car rollover accident in 2021 that nearly cost him part of his right leg

Focus on Recovery and Privacy

In his statement, Woods emphasized his commitment to the treatment process and requested privacy for himself and his family during this period.

"I'm committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focussed place, personally and professionally," he wrote. "I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family loved ones and myself at this time."

Sheriff Budensiek noted that alcohol was not suspected in the recent incident, stating, "We really weren't suspicious of alcohol being involved and that proved true." He added that authorities took Woods' extensive injury history into account during their investigation.

Woods' 2019 Masters victory remains one of the most remarkable comebacks in sports history, marking his fifth green jacket after numerous injuries and surgeries. His current treatment program represents another chapter in his ongoing health journey as he addresses both physical and personal challenges.
