"It was great to play in Kyle's system, to have Kyle as a coach, to hear him talk about football," Darnold explained. "I soaked all those moments in to just be able to learn as much as I could, just because I felt like he talked about football in a way that I had really never heard before."
Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, who worked with Darnold in San Francisco as passing game coordinator, observed significant growth during this period. "He was at a point of his career where he was at a crossroads," Kubiak noted. "You could see just the talent that he had and how he grew that season."
The Path to Seattle and Super Bowl Success
Following his developmental year in San Francisco, Darnold experienced a resurgence with the Minnesota Vikings, winning 14 games as a starter before an early playoff exit. This performance caught the attention of the Seattle Seahawks, where he reunited with Kubiak.
Darnold's 2025 season with Seattle has been nothing short of remarkable:

"We were really fortunate to get him," Kubiak emphasized. "When he came to us, he was just so much more of a mature player. He had a lot of scars and he used those scars to make himself a better player."

In a poetic twist, Darnold will dress for the Super Bowl in the same Levi's Stadium locker room where he spent the 2023 season as a 49ers backup. Reflecting on his journey during Super Bowl Opening Night, Darnold contrasted his current status with his previous experience.
"I was somewhere over there, standing, hoping people would talk to me," he recalled of the 2023 Super Bowl. "Now I'm here."
