If you are fortunate and wealthy enough to have a ticket for Tuesday's Game 5 between the Edmonton Oilers and the Anaheim Ducks, you will likely have butterflies in your stomach. The best way to deal with that nervous energy is to distract yourself with delicious snacks. Here are some fascinating food facts about Oilers game nights that will make you the star of any water-cooler conversation.
How Much Popcorn Is Eaten on a Game Day?
The Oilers provided an answer to this question. On a typical game day, 350,000 ounces of popcorn are ordered and consumed. That equates to about 11 tons. To put that into perspective, consider how light a single kernel is; 11 tons is roughly the weight of a school bus. Yes, we used imperial measurements for that calculation.
How Many Hotdogs Per Game?
Over 1,300 Nathan's Famous hotdogs are devoured during each game. If competitive eater Joey Chestnut were transported to Edmonton, he would have his work cut out for him. Chestnut, the legendary champion of the annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest, consumed 70.5 hotdogs in 10 minutes to win the title in 2025. If his stomach were infinite and he could maintain that pace, it would take him just over three hours to finish a day's supply of Rogers Place hotdogs.
Most Popular Food Item
Pizza takes the crown as the most popular food item. Pizza 73 is the vendor inside Rogers Place, and the numbers show that pizza outpaces popcorn, fried chicken, hotdogs, and even perogies. Pizza is easy to eat, unless you are one of those who uses a knife and fork. Despite the high demand, there are occasionally leftovers. The Oilers redirect any surplus food through a food rescue program. Kevin Rapanos, spokesperson for OEG Sports and Entertainment, stated, "While the vast majority of food prepared for Rogers Place events is consumed by fans, any surplus food is donated to Edmonton's Food Bank through the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation's food rescue program."
Playoff Grub
New food offerings were introduced for the playoffs. The BBQ Double Dog features caramelized onions, Heinz's Ultimate BBQ Sauce, and pickle. Hotdog purists will note that ketchup is not listed among the ingredients. The debate over ketchup on hotdogs is as divisive as pineapple on pizza. However, squirting ketchup onto that hotdog may anger the Food Gods, and if you anger the Food Gods, you may in turn anger the Hockey Gods.
