The Edmonton Oilers have lost a top prospect winger as Roby Jarventie has signed a two-year contract with Hockey Club Ambrì Piotta of the Swiss League, the team announced on Tuesday.
Jarventie's Move to Switzerland
The Swiss club confirmed the signing in a statement, noting that Jarventie will join the team for the 2027-28 season. The move marks a departure from the Oilers organization for the 23-year-old Finnish forward, who was drafted in the second round by the Ottawa Senators in 2020 before being acquired by Edmonton.
Career Highlights
Jarventie, born in 2002, developed his skills in the Ilves youth academy in Finland, where he made his Liiga debut. He recorded 27 points in 58 games in the Finnish top division. Since moving to North America in 2021, he has played 204 AHL games with the Belleville Senators and Bakersfield Condors, amassing 138 points. He also appeared in 10 NHL games with the Senators and Oilers.
Internationally, Jarventie represented Finland at two U20 World Championships in 2020 and 2021, earning a bronze medal and a silver medal, respectively.
Club's Strategy
HC Ambrì Piotta stated that the signings of Jarventie, along with Nate Schnarr and Michael Joly, align with the club's strategy for the new blue-and-white era. The team aims to bring in players with a clear identity who prioritize team success and play with sacrifice and responsibility.
The Oilers will now need to adjust their prospect pipeline following Jarventie's departure.
