Kostyuk stuns Swiatek on her birthday at French Open

Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk stunned world number one Iga Swiatek on her birthday to reach her first French Open quarterfinal on Sunday. The 23-year-old Kostyuk won 6-4, 6-3 on Court Philippe Chatrier, ending Swiatek's 14-match winning streak at Roland Garros.

Match Highlights

Kostyuk broke Swiatek's serve three times and saved all five break points she faced. The Ukrainian player dominated from the baseline, hitting 22 winners to Swiatek's 14. Swiatek, who was celebrating her 25th birthday, struggled with unforced errors, tallying 28 to Kostyuk's 15.

"I have no words. This is the best birthday gift I could give myself," Kostyuk said in her on-court interview. "Iga is an incredible champion, but today everything went my way."

Road to Quarterfinal

Kostyuk, ranked 28th in the world, had never advanced past the third round at a Grand Slam before this tournament. She will face either Coco Gauff or Ons Jabeur in the quarterfinals. Swiatek, a two-time French Open champion, had been the heavy favorite to win her third title in Paris.

The victory marks the biggest win of Kostyuk's career and continues a trend of upsets at this year's tournament. Earlier in the week, defending champion Novak Djokovic was eliminated in the second round.
