A 13-year-old girl from Ottawa has tragically passed away four days after a devastating incident at Centre Vorlage ski hill in Wakefield. The accident occurred during a school trip when her clothing became entangled in part of a chairlift, leading to life-threatening injuries.

On Sunday evening, CHEO released a heartfelt statement from the girl's parents, confirming her death earlier that day. They expressed their devastation, stating, "We are devastated to share that our 13-year-old daughter, who was involved in a tragic accident at Vorlage ski hill last week, has passed away today."
The parents extended their gratitude to the community for the overwhelming support and love received over the past few days. They also thanked those who took heroic actions in an attempt to save their child.
Organ Donation and Legacy
In a poignant revelation, the parents shared that some of their daughter's organs had been donated through the Trillium Gift of Life program. They emphasized, "Her sweet bubbly spirit and love for those around her will live on through the lives she has touched and the lives she has saved through organ donation."
To honour her memory, they requested donations to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) and Child Life team at CHEO.
Details of the Incident
According to MRC des-Collines-de-l'Outaouais police, a preliminary investigation indicated that the girl's hoodie became tangled in a chairlift's pull device. First responders were unable to free her immediately, leading to a decision to move her to the bottom of the ski hill while she was still hanging from the cable.
The young teen was initially taken to Wakefield Hospital before being transferred to CHEO with critical injuries.
School Board Response
In response to the tragedy, the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board has cancelled all ski trips involving chairlifts while the incident is under review. This precautionary measure aims to ensure student safety as investigations continue.
