Cavalry FC Secures Star Striker Ali Musse with New Contract Through 2028

In a move that stabilizes their roster during an offseason of significant change, Calgary Cavalry FC has announced the re-signing of superstar forward Ali Musse. The Canadian Premier League club confirmed that the dynamic attacker has agreed to a new standard player contract that will keep him with the Cavs through the 2028 season.

A Commitment to Community and Success

The 30-year-old Musse expressed his enthusiasm for continuing his journey with the Calgary-based franchise. "Extending my time here goes beyond a contract—it's a commitment to something greater," Musse stated. "This city and community have become my home. We've shared many special moments, and I'm excited to continue the journey toward even greater heights."

Since joining Cavalry FC in 2021, the Somali-born striker has established himself as one of the premier talents in both club and league history. Across all competitions, Musse has made 122 appearances while netting an impressive 31 goals and contributing 25 assists for the Cavs.

Accolades and Impact

Among his numerous achievements, Musse was awarded the league's prestigious Players' Player of the Year honor following a stellar 2023 campaign. His consistent performance and offensive prowess have made him a constant and reliable presence at ATCO Field.

Cavalry GM and head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. emphasized the importance of retaining Musse's talents. "Ali Musse has been a star in this league and a massive player for our club," Wheeldon said. "We worked hard to get this deal done because players like Ali raise the level of our group. He brings quality, personality and excitement to the pitch—and I know our supporters will be thrilled to see that number-seven jersey attacking the opposition."

Roster Transformation Continues

While Musse's re-signing provides stability, the Cavalry roster has undergone substantial transformation during the offseason. Several key players have departed the club, including:

  • Goalkeeper Marco Carducci
  • All-purpose player Fraser Aird
  • Defenders Tom Field and Callum Montgomery
  • Midfielders Diego Gutiérrez and Shamit Shome
  • Forwards Nicolas Wähling and Ayman Sellouf

The club has exercised options to retain defender Eryk Kobza and midfielder Niko Myroniuk for the 2026 season. Additionally, Cavalry has bolstered their squad with several new acquisitions during the winter transfer period:

  1. Goalkeeper Nathan Ingham
  2. Defenders Amer Didić and Curtis Ofori
  3. Midfielder Harry Paton
  4. Forward Nathaniel Edwards

Veteran Leadership Added

The addition of CPL veteran Nathan Ingham represents a particularly significant acquisition. Ingham most recently captained Atlético Ottawa to the CPL's North Star Cup championship in November 2025.

Wheeldon praised Ingham's credentials, noting, "Nate has been among the league's elite goalkeepers since the CPL began. He's a proven winner, a strong leader and someone who consistently impacts matches at the biggest moments. His ability with the ball and his calm authority inspires confidence in the team in front of him."

The upcoming season for Cavalry FC begins on Sunday, April 12, at Spruce Meadows, where Musse will take the field alongside both familiar faces and new teammates as the club continues its pursuit of championship success in the Canadian Premier League.
