The 30th edition of the Fair Play Menarini International Award was officially presented at a press conference in Rome, honoring athletes who have demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship and integrity. The event took place in the Hall of Honour of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI).
Celebrating Champions On and Off the Field
This year's award winners include world-renowned athletes such as pole vault legend Armand Duplantis, who holds the world record, and Italian swimming star Gregorio Paltrinieri. The list also features Gianfranco Zola, a beloved figure in football, basketball star Achille Polonara, race walking champion Antonella Palmisano, Paralympic skiing standout Chiara Mazzel, and Olympic fencer Daniele Garozzo. Additionally, speed skaters Davide Ghiotto, Andrea Giovannini, and Michele Malfatti, along with volleyball player Simone Anzani, will be recognized.
A Milestone Anniversary
Luciano Buonfiglio, President of CONI, highlighted the significance of the 30th anniversary: "We are delighted to mark this milestone in the CONI Hall of Honour. Thirty years is a significant achievement, built on solid foundations that have honored many champions. I am particularly pleased that three young athletes are being honored today, demonstrating ethics, respect, and integrity."
Young Athletes Award
The Fair Play Menarini Award also recognizes young athletes who embody fair play. This year's winners include Matteo Pasqualetti, Gloria Tinaburri, and Alberto Belluzzi, who remind us that fair play is a daily choice in both competition and life.
Awards Ceremony in Florence
The official awards ceremony will take place on July 2 at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence. The event will be broadcast in collaboration with Sky TG24 and hosted by Rachele Sangiuliano, Michele Cagiano, and Omar Schillaci, alongside sports commentator Federico Buffa.
Board members of the Fair Play Menarini Foundation, Luca Lastrucci, Valeria Speroni Cardi, and Filippo Paganelli, stated: "For thirty years, this award has celebrated champions who leave their mark not only through victories but also through their approach to sport.
