More than two weeks after the sudden death of his younger brother, NASCAR legend Kyle Busch, Kurt Busch has publicly shared an emotional tribute. The Hall of Famer took to Instagram on Monday morning to express his gratitude and reflect on their shared journey, marking his first public comments since the tragedy.
A Heartfelt Message
Kurt began his post by thanking fans and the racing community for their overwhelming support. “Thank you from the bottom of my heart,” he wrote. “Thank you, everyone, for the well wishes, support, and love for my brother and our family.” Accompanying the message were several photos capturing decades of memories, including a childhood image of the brothers riding a metal cart together.
He reminisced about their competitive upbringing, stating, “Finding a silver lining, I reflect back on the days Kyle and I raced anything we could get our hands on. From big wheels to competing on the biggest stages in motorsports, we were more than just fierce competitors. We pushed each other, challenged each other, and learned from each other.”
Kurt added, “Kyle, your passion, determination, and love for your family inspired everyone who knew you. No trophy, championship, or accomplishment could ever measure the impact you had on my life and on so many others.” He concluded with a poignant farewell: “Rest easy, little brother.”
The Busch Brothers' NASCAR Legacy
The Busch brothers are among the most accomplished sibling duos in NASCAR history, with a combined 97 Cup Series victories and three championships. Kurt retired in 2022 and was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026 earlier this year. Kyle’s sudden death on May 21 stunned the motorsports world.
Family Statements and Cause of Death
Kyle’s wife, Samantha, spoke publicly for the first time last week, sharing an emotional message on Instagram. “The prayers, messages, flowers, meals, hugs, and countless acts of kindness have carried us through the most heartbreaking days of our lives,” she wrote. “While our hearts are absolutely shattered, we have felt God’s presence and arms wrapped tightly around us through each and every one of you.”
According to his death certificate obtained by Us Weekly, the 41-year-old driver died from a chain of events beginning with bacterial pneumonia, which developed into sepsis. This led to disseminated intravascular coagulation, causing small blood clots that restricted organ blood flow, ultimately resulting in hemorrhagic shock. He was cremated following his death.
The family previously stated that Busch died of “severe pneumonia that had progressed into sepsis, resulting in rapid and overwhelming associated complications.” He is survived by his wife, Samantha, and their two children, son Brexton, 11, and daughter Lennix, 4.
