Conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt achieved the impossible on Monday night: he managed to get President Donald Trump to finally go on record about a matter of pressing importance to the American people. Yes, Hewitt successfully extracted the president's second-favorite fast food restaurant.
Trump's Fast Food Legacy
Fast food looms large in Trump's legend, particularly McDonald's. He is known to devour two Big Macs, two Filet-O-Fish sandwiches, and a chocolate milkshake. During the 2024 campaign, he even conducted a photo op behind the fry station at a McDonald's in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Hewitt's Probing Question
But Hewitt wanted to dig deeper. He asked the president a tough, hard-hitting question: "If there's no McDonald's around, Burger King or Wendy's?" Trump paused to process the query, then responded in his trademark style, starting with a tangent. "Well, I'll tell you... a friend of mine, sort of an old friend, but he's not really a friend anymore ... I don't like him too much," Trump rambled, before finally addressing the topic. "I've always liked Wendy's. But the person that controls it, I don't like him so much anymore, but Wendy's is pretty good."
Possible Reference to Nelson Peltz
Trump may have been referring to Nelson Peltz, the former chairman of Wendy's board, who was a longtime friend and made personal donations to Trump's presidential campaign. However, after the January 6 Capitol riots, Peltz expressed regret for voting for Trump and left Wendy's in 2024.
Reactions and Social Media Buzz
HuffPost reached out to Wendy's and Burger King for comment on Trump's second-favorite choice, but no one immediately responded. Others, however, had plenty to say on social media. One user noted the contrast between Hewitt's 2016 question about the nuclear triad and his current fast food triad query. Another remarked that these are serious questions needing answers, while a third questioned whether Trump likes Wendy's food or its spokesgirl image. A fourth sarcastically suggested that if this were Biden, it would be grounds for impeachment.
