Winnipeg police responding to a break-and-enter call on Saturday ended up seizing a hunting rifle and more than $1,000 worth of ammunition, authorities said.
Incident Details
Officers were dispatched to a residence in the city’s North End around 10:30 a.m. after a report of a break-in. Upon arrival, they discovered the suspect had fled, but a search of the property turned up a loaded hunting rifle and a large cache of ammunition. The ammunition was valued at over $1,000.
Police have not yet made any arrests, but the investigation is ongoing. The homeowner was not present at the time of the incident, and no injuries were reported.
Community Concerns
This seizure comes amid growing concerns about illegal firearms in Winnipeg. In recent months, police have reported an increase in gun-related incidents. The Winnipeg Police Service has emphasized its commitment to removing dangerous weapons from the streets.
“This is a significant find,” said Constable Jay Murray. “We are grateful that no one was harmed, and we will continue to investigate to ensure the responsible parties are held accountable.”
