A 74-acre olive farm on Salt Spring Island, the only commercial olive oil producer in Canada, will be sold at auction as two separate parcels on Aug. 12, 2026. The farm, established in 2010 by Sheri Braun and her late husband George Braun, produces extra virgin olive oil retailing at $625 per litre, used by high-end restaurants across the country.
Unique Microclimate Enables Olive Cultivation
The Brauns spent years researching conditions across Canada before selecting Salt Spring Island's Fulford Valley, which boasts a microclimate both mild and dry enough to grow olives at scale. The 30-hectare property now hosts 750 olive trees, yielding Canada's only extra virgin olive oil. Despite its premium price, the oil consistently sells out and maintains a wait-list.
Auction Details and Property Features
CLH Law, a firm specializing in farm and ranch sales, is managing the online auction via CLHbid.com. Bidding starts at $2.19 million per parcel. The first parcel, 36 acres, includes an olive grove, creek, waterfall, hay fields, a modern shop with milling equipment, irrigation system, greenhouse, and a small home. The second parcel, 38 acres, features a Tuscan-villa-style two-bedroom home overlooking the Fulford Valley. The high bidder may also purchase farm equipment, the olive mill, and malaxers separately.
Growing Interest from North American Buyers
The auction has already attracted interest from prospective buyers in Canada, Colorado, California, and Texas. Roy Carter, CEO of CLHbid.com, stated, “We’re pleased to support Sheri as she looks to turn her dream project over to a new owner. The olive production is increasing annually as the trees mature and the property’s plentiful irrigation and unused land provides additional opportunities to scale-up production.”
Retirement and Legacy
Sheri Braun, now retiring, hopes the new owners will continue and expand the olive oil operation. The south-facing property sits at the base of Mount Maxwell, five minutes from Fulford Harbour, with ferry connections to Victoria and Vancouver, and float plane access in about 20 minutes. Carter added, “Given that this sale is offering 74 beautiful green acres in one of the world’s most desirable locations, along with one of Canada’s most comfortable climates, we expect tremendous interest from across North America.”
