The Harbourside Ribfest has returned to the Halifax waterfront for its 11th consecutive year, bringing together barbecue enthusiasts and families for a weekend of food, music, and community celebration. The festival, which runs from July 3 to July 5, 2026, features multiple award-winning rib vendors from across North America.
Award-Winning Vendors and Menu Highlights
This year's lineup includes returning favorites such as Camp 31 BBQ, known for their signature dry rub and tangy sauces, alongside new participants bringing regional styles. Organizers expect to serve over 10,000 pounds of ribs during the three-day event, according to festival director Mike Smith. "We're thrilled to bring this tasty tradition back to the waterfront. It's a chance for people to enjoy world-class barbecue right here in Halifax," Smith said.
Entertainment and Family Activities
Beyond the food, the festival offers live music performances from local bands, a kids' zone with face painting and games, and a craft beer tent featuring Nova Scotia breweries. The event is free to attend, with food and drink available for purchase. Proceeds from the beer tent will support local charities, including the Halifax Food Bank.
The Ribfest has become a staple of Halifax's summer calendar, drawing crowds from across the Maritime provinces. In previous years, attendance has exceeded 50,000 visitors over the weekend, according to event organizers.
Logistics and Accessibility
The festival is located on the Halifax waterfront between Cable Wharf and the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. Parking is available at nearby lots, with shuttle services from satellite lots on Saturday and Sunday. Organizers encourage attendees to use public transit or bike to reduce congestion.
Health and safety measures include handwashing stations and allergy information posted at each vendor booth. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, with extended hours on Saturday until 10 p.m.
