Two motorcyclists critically injured in Gaspé and Laurentians

Two motorcyclists are in critical condition following separate crashes in Quebec's Gaspé region and the Laurentians, the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) confirmed.

Crashes occurred within hours of each other

The first incident happened on Wednesday afternoon in Sainte-Anne-des-Monts, Gaspé, when a motorcyclist lost control on a curve and struck a guardrail. The rider, a man in his 40s, was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Hours later, in the Laurentians town of Saint-Jérôme, a second motorcyclist crashed after failing to negotiate a turn. The victim, a man in his 30s, was transported to a trauma centre in critical condition.

Police investigation ongoing

SQ officers are investigating both crashes. Preliminary reports suggest speed may have been a factor, but no charges have been filed. “We remind all motorcyclists to exercise caution, especially on winding roads,” said SQ spokesperson Sgt. Claude Denis.

According to the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec, motorcycle fatalities have increased 12% this year compared to the same period in 2025.
