Barrie police are urging residents to take simple precautions to prevent theft after a recent incident where a pair of glasses worth $600 was stolen from a vehicle. The theft was reported by South Simcoe Police, who noted that the glasses were taken from an unlocked car.
Simple Steps to Deter Thieves
Police recommend always locking vehicle doors and keeping valuables out of sight. “Thieves often target cars that appear to have items left inside,” said a South Simcoe Police spokesperson. “By removing or hiding valuables, you reduce the risk of becoming a victim.”
According to police, opportunistic thieves frequently check for unlocked doors and visible items. The $600 glasses were taken from a car parked in a residential area, highlighting the need for vigilance.

Authorities also advise parking in well-lit areas, using steering wheel locks, and installing car alarms if possible. “Even small steps can make a big difference,” the spokesperson added. “Don’t give thieves an easy target.”
